Ashley obtained her Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude from the University of Kentucky in English and her Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law. While in law school, Ashley was a member of the Brandeis Law Journal and won the 2005 Kentucky Bar Association’s Student Writing Competition. Following her graduation from law school, Ashley was employed as the first staff attorney for the Family Court in the 12th Judicial Circuit in 2005. Ashley then started her career in private practice in Oldham County and the surrounding counties, where she has now been practicing for over twenty years.

 

In addition to serving as an Assistant County Attorney, Ashley is also a partner in her law firm of Johnson Cook Abbott Ahrens & Shiffman, PLLC. She has served as Guardian ad Litem, Friend of the Court, and court-appointed parent’s attorney in Family Court and on the Dependent, Neglect, and Abuse dockets in Oldham, Henry, Trimble, and Jefferson Counties. Ashley has been admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky. She is a member of the Louisville Bar Association, the 12th Judicial Circuit Bar Association, and the Kentucky Bar Association. Ashley has served as the President, Vice President, and Treasurer for the 12th Judicial Circuit Bar Association. She joined the Oldham County Attorney’s Office in 2025.
